Bali: Climate Neutrality and Sustainable Economy by 2045

Bali recognised the importance of sustainable development as indicated by the existence of sub-national climate efforts through several policies, for example regarding the prohibition of the use of single-use plastic bags, acceleration of electric mobility, and the use of solar PV issues to achieve net-zero emissions. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Bali's focus shifted to handling the economic crisis in Bali as the most affected province in Indonesia. The pandemic stopped the tourism sector that was the main sector driving the economy in Bali. Hence, this programme aimed to assist Bali province to keep itself on track (by 2026) to achieve net-zero emissions underpinned by a sustainable economy that benefitted people and nature. The initial step taken to start this programme was to map the economic and political potential of businesses that could be used as a basis for implementing the next “Bali – Climate Neutrality and Sustainable Economy” programme.
