Research Interests

  • I am interested in looking at nuanced and critical relations between diverse manifestations of urban informality (particularly work, housing, and politics) and rural transformations.
  • I specialise in qualitative approach, but I possess experience in using mixed-methods analysis, including using statistical and spatial analysis.
  • My past research topics include informal settlement, alternative food network, small island tourism, human rights, democracy, protection of social justice leaders, and street vending politics.

My research interests are in:

  • sustainable cities and urban informality;
  • just transition and post-mining city transformation;
  • climate resilience and low-carbon urban initiatives and planning;
  • environmental justice and defenders' rights;
  • participatory (and) action research methods; and
  • civil society capacity and urban governance.

My recent work focuses on:

  • research quality plus (RQ+) approach in evaluating research grant/support programme;
  • evaluation of global organisation strategy with a focus on sustainable cities pillar;
  • cities and climate resilience evaluation;
  • post-mining city transition technical assistance (action plan drafting); and
  • research with and about environmental defenders in extractive industry contexts.

  • Independent consultant for national and international companies and CSOs.
  • Co-Founder and Managing Editor at Kolektif Agora (nonprofit, volunteering).
  • Programme and Research Coordinator at Public Virtue Research Institute.
  • Research Assistant at the Regional and Rural Planning Research Centre (KK PWD), Institut Teknologi Bandung.
  • Research and Campaign Intern at Amnesty International Indonesia.
